Garden Show in Giardini Margherita

One day while walking about Bologna I saw a sign for a garden show at Giardini Margherita (out the back gate and across the road that circles the historic part of the city). I checked with Franca, our kind proprietaria (landlady) and she said it would be large, lots of plant and flower vendors as well as craft vendors over 3 days.

I watched the set-up occur over nearly a week. Huge generators to light the booths (it is an all outdoors event from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day), nearly 100 large tent booths with frames that would withstand a major windstorm and more trash and recycle containers than you could count.

Trees were for sale, including the older olive trees you can see in this photo.
Beautiful dahlias
These reminded me of a mix between a pumpkin and a chinese lantern.
Peppers Galore!
Gourd-geous!

There were rows and rows and rows and rows of both cooking herbs and medicinal herbs. People brought wagons with them to purchased plants and flowers.

This event is held twice a year, once in the spring and once in early fall.

This is truly a family event; the place to see and be seen.

There was so much to see that I spent an entire Saturday at the garden show throughly enjoying myself. Interestingly, some vendors specialized in patio or desk plants for those folks with only small areas to display or grow things. All in all, a great show and a pleasant way to spend the day for me.
